I am going to explain and set it up to work as a new controller in my Ultimaker 2 clone with a single extruder. As with all 3D printer controller boards, there are a few aspects that will leave users wanting more. Nowadays, it is not that you are scared of a standard, you chose on purpose a system such as raspberry pi or linux distroswhere you hope to have support for a minimum period of time.

I really wish I could show pictures, but it would not be fair. Wow, this is some serious learning for me! A bit out of my league right now but it is definitely interesting. The BBP board will be one to keep an eye on.

I was wondering what level of testing was completed for delta configurations. I have a Rostock MAX V2, upgraded to a smoothie board for being one of the few bit boards on the market with comparability at the time but now am seeing if anything else out there may be better.

Hi Richard, these were the 4 controller boards that Brett has used and tested. Do you have experience with PrintrBoard Rev F? The Radds Board is no longer available to buy as per Makerfarm. I wanted to upgrade to this. Well all I have is Delta Machines, so pretty extensive testing.

The only area that I might deviate from masses, is that I still calibrate my machines manually. I run literally from morning to night for my business, I was able to test the particular boards which the firmware was working with deltas very throughly.

What more information would you like to know? Yah unfortunately they are out of stock. A substitute would be the Duet board which should be back in stock with Filastruder. Hopefully the Radds 1.

I love the setup. Yes, I did only tested boards that I was buying for myself. I did not have the article in mind when I purchased and it was an expensive month buying multiple computer boards.

This is not the case for Delta printers. Take note of the! Go back and modify this later as needed instead of swapping around the cables, which you can't do, if you use the proper connectors in any case. I have set my Z-motor to 0.

I have uncommented two settings here: One thing of note here is the current for our delta driver, which translates to our Extruder 01 motor. My Extruder motor is rated at 2. I want to give it some juice, but not running it too hot, so I'll put it at 1.

I am running a 5. I do change the type of thermistor used. I am using E3D hotend, which comes with a Semitec thermistor, so I need to change that. To find the correct thermistor, we look at: We do need to configure this, but we cant really do it at this stage since we need everything setup first.

Ccleaner 32 bit 3d printer controller - 550 jet ski download ccleaner full 7 round 2017 free day trial

In Smoothiware the command is M E0 S60 to test at 60c. I did a test at 60 and then Again at with new values. In order to actually connect our thermistor we take a look at our pins image to figure out where we connect it.

I have made a small comment in the config. Below chart looks rather unorderly, but is listed as left to right on the controller-board. It is listed on the board itself, which makes it not as bad as it might seem.

There was no comment to clearly state the start of the heated bed section, so I made a start comment Heated bed temperature control configuration to match the start of hotend section. You might need to change the Thermistor to the appropriate type for your setup.

Nothing else to it really. I could do it by turning signals down to 20 according to smoothiewares site, but I honestly don't know how to do a PID tuning of my Heated-bed? This is the large screw-terminal right next to power input.

This sections looks very confusing at first glance, but it really not bad, when you first figure out how it is ordered. Lets setup homing direction for our Ultimaker style printer. We know it homes to X min, Y max and Z max.

Ccleaner 32 bit 3d printer controller - 550 jet ski download ccleaner full 7 round 2017 free day trial

We do not use X max, Y min and Z min endstops, so lets disable those, by typing nc, which translates to N ot C onnected. Test output by issuing a M command to it. This looks different than when using Marlin, so instead of triggered, you get an 1 if the endstop is signalling a hit.

If you get a false positive you need to revert the endstop signal by adding an! You can see how I removed the! Just don't focus on 1. The Ultimaker 2 homes to Z max and it really just takes ages for it to home if you keep it at its default.

I actually had double this in Marlin, but want to test it out a bit, before raising it, since I just changed my heated bed to something heavier. I upped these well, especially for my Z axes. If you want to configure your printer with a static address instead, you simply type in the IP address and subnet mask here.

Do disable any networking service you do not use, aa it will open a security breach where people might take over your machine. Especially disable Telnet if you do not use it. I hoped it helped you get started, or helped you decide wheter to make the leap for Smoothie-type boards and Smoothieware or stay away.

I believe I have fullfilled the purpose of this Instructables by getting started using the Sbase 1. I allready did setup a Hotend Temperature and - fanswitch 2 switches, which I will cover in an upcoming Instructables.

It helped me to configure my mks board and fan switch too. Now I am planing to install dual extruder system with single hotend and one extruder but with servo for filament switching. It requires extruder motor direction change when servo rotates and engages second filament.

Any help is wellcome. That's more advanced than I ever did while using Smoothieware. I've been using Duet and RepRapFirmware for over a year now: I'm wonder how to configure my 3d printer. It is my first 3d printer at all.

I'v two Z motors and two Z end stops. I can't find google how to configure it properly. Two Z endstops are used due to independent and precise homing of Z axes to properly level X axe. Could me anybody tell how to make a proper configuration?

Whether such feature-richness makes sense obviously depends on your taste. A commodity printer hooked up to a laptop or to a RasPi needs 4 steppers, two heaters, two temp sensors. I just paid for one of the as yet unreleased DuetWiFi boards, another of the 32 bit processor boards.

They do have a wired ethernet version, but I wanted the new stepper controllers on the one releasing next month. Those are most of an Arduino RAMPS configuration, with pieces left out, and whole features missing or poorly documented.

I personally like the Duet. Single voltage only, no fusing, uses really tiny screw terminals for hotend heat. For the next generation, if you like bleeding edge and are willing to wait, I see it like so: This is based soley on what there is to see spec wise currently, and is from the perspective of maximal performance.

It may be that the user-friendliness of the duet WiFi does what you want, or the Wifi on a printer is a no-go for you. You should go for MKS Sbase v1. It is way cheaper and some even say it is better made than original smoothieboard.

I has been using one for months, it is great, no complain so far. Two of those were people who tried getting help from MKS but never got any kind of useful answer. We also write the documentation smoothieware.

Also, MKS is a cancer that is sucking the blood off the project, slowly killing it. They can immediately drop development costs. It takes money to prototype, to be able to support taking a week and spending it on firmware, to develop new features.

After all, what have you heard about the tBone controller recently? Those are things they can leave to Arthur, and the other genuine Smoothie developers, supporters, and users, so they can give you a product at a slightly better price.

Sure, you can save some money. But you save that money at the expense of the community, and at the expense of future development. Penny wise, Pound foolish I say. While I think the Smoothieboard is great as far as functionality, what is with the layout?

While I dont like the fact that the Chinese rip off everything known to man, the MKS board has much better build quality from the looks of it than the Smoothieboard. At least the connectors are not falling off the edges of it….

Just did a few checks to see what would have to be changed to make STs evalboard run fully on a 24V rail for motors and all heaters. Of course there are a few resistors to change too, but nothing major or complicated.

I would definately add some overvoltage protection to them, to make shure a backfire from inductive loads heaters usually are inductive can not kill the FET. Replace the power FETs is not impossible, but you need to have the right tools and know-how to de - and resolder them.

I would like them to have at least a 40V to 60V rating to be on the safe side. This one has an absolute max rating of 18V on the input. So, it seems very much possible for someone with a bit of SMD rework experience to upgrade the board for 24V operation.

I can replace surface mount devices easily enough. You could although check, if they have an avalanche rating. Heaters are inductive, yes, but way less than a magnet coil. Of course you can connect a freewheeling diode in parallel with the heater, just to be completely safe.

Even with 25V AlCaps you do not really need to replace them, they will not fail catastrophically — but it is possible that their life is shortened. Of course than you would have to replace them. This is what I just received: We are unable to ship these items to you and your order has been cancelled.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Just hit that export restriction wall too… Funny to put an US export restriction onto a board, when ST even states on its website that the country of origin is Italy.

Simply wish to say your article is as astounding. Well along with your permission allow me to grasp your feed to stay up to date with drawing close post. Thank you one million and please carry on the gratifying work.

Is there any reason behind that approach?

Which board you should go with comes down to the specific needs of your machine. For more processor intensive machines like those using multi-extrusion or delta geometries, a 32 bit board can be necessary to produce optimal results.

I did not have the article in mind when I purchased and it was an expensive month buying multiple computer boards. I wanted to stay with Repetier firmware. I have a huge problem with what you are saying about Smoothieware.

And what display s can you hook up to it? Overall everything seems fine, though I thought that the SmoothieBoard could be updated the same way as the Duet boards, with only 8-bit boards requiring the software to be pre-compiled and uploaded to the controller.

Hello I can not find an answer to run a second motor with an external driver for Z axis. Best regards my mail for your repons; pmy0 sfr. I think i have somehow killed my ad chip for the ntc on my heater..

Or the Analog Pins in the left upper corner p1. If you use the external driver pins on a driver, the external driver just gets same signal as the internal one, so you don't have to setup anything. Thank you so much for this instructable!

You are pretty much the soul good info source. Had my setup configured and now its working without any hickups. The only thing that I cant figure out is the external SD. I have the GLCD display with a built in card reader - configured the pins as shown in MKS github config file, but it still wouldnt read.

In the picture where you identify all the main parts of the board including 4 little switches in the middle of the board. Do you know what positions they should be on? Is anyone succesfully printing from the SD card in the SBase?

My set-up cannot access the files I loaded on there. It obviously does read the card, as the config and firmware files work. The Micro SD is not meant to store. I was hoping to set it up to work over the LAN port, I thought it was a means to get files from other computers in the network to the machine, to the sd card, because I heard printing from the screen SD card is not very stable.

I have had multiple prints quit on me after several hours, I am looking to fix that. What this is about: What this is not going to be: Cartesian axis speed limits, pins and current Pins Current Firmware Step 3: Configuring Endstops Homing direction Disable unused endstops Define axes size Reversing endstop output Fast and slow homing rates Firmware step 7: Network Settings Step 8: Installing firmware Firmware from MKS are just and old copy of Smoothieware, so we always just want to use the newest version from Smoothieware.

If you can't find config. Download official firmware from Smoothiewares firmware page which is a subpage on their own Github page you might want to download their full github repository folder in order to find their config.

When everything is working fine, you can use the Nightly version instead. Your SD Card is now going to show in your file-Explorer. If not, you need to make sure you have the Drivers installed.

If you can't find the config. I have changed nothing on my win And nothing bad has happened the past year. The D7 lights up, shortly after D1 follows. At this point, the firmware. Changing or Updating firmware Just delete the firmware.

Obvious difference from Marlin Configuring Smoothieware is done in a single config. Less obvious differneces There are some less obvious differences between Marlin and Smoothieware, where the most notable are: No clear pattern is in place.

This is a template and not just something to put in and use. Configuring firmware First make a backup of your config. I'm adding a line to the start of the file: External Motor Controllers If you need to hook up some external motor controller, you can do it using the pins just below the big heatsink over the drivers.

Extruder setup I am not using the original extruder, so my numbers will be different here!. Delta driver current One thing of note here is the current for our delta driver, which translates to our Extruder 01 motor.

I'm not changing the pins or connector we use, but stick to the default. Thermistor type I do change the type of thermistor used. When you are ready to do it, the command is slightly different than with Marlin firmware.

Hotend thermistor - physical layout In order to actually connect our thermistor we take a look at our pins image to figure out where we connect it. Default connector for hotend thermistor is the one named TH2 on the board.

Thermistor Type You might need to change the Thermistor to the appropriate type for your setup. If I wanted to specify my frequency for the bed, it would be like this:
